American Association of University Women

Columbia, Missouri Branch

The Columbia branch was founded in 1907 and has been active in this community for 100 years.

What is the AAUW?
The American Association of University Women is the oldest and largest organization working to promote education and equity for women and girls. It was founded in 1881 as a forum for educated women to interact and make their voices heard in a previously male-dominated field.

AAUW consists of two corporations:

The Association:

The Association—with more than 100,000 members, 1,300 branches, and 550 college/university institution partners nationwide—advocates education and equity. Since its founding in 1881, members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day—educational, social, economic, and political. Our commitment to our mission is reflected in our public policy efforts, programs, Leadership and Training Institute, and diversity initiatives. AAUW's work extends globally through its international connections and membership in the International Federation of University Women.

The AAUW Educational Foundation:

The AAUW Educational Foundation is the world's largest source of funding exclusively for graduate women. Each year the Foundation provides about $4 million in fellowships, grants, and awards for outstanding women around the globe and for community action projects. The Foundation also funds pioneering research on women, girls, and education, and international symposia.

The AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund, a program of the AAUW Educational Foundation, is the nation's largest legal fund focused solely on sex discrimination in higher education. The Legal Advocacy Fund provides funds and a support system for women seeking judicial redress for sex discrimination in higher education.

Mission:
AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research.

Vision Statement:
AAUW will be a powerful advocate and visible leader in equity and education through research, philanthropy, and measurable change in critical areas impacting the lives of women and girls.

Membership:
Membership in AAUW is open to any graduate holding an associate or equivalent, baccalaureate, or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution. Student affiliates are enrolled in an associate's or a bachelor's degree program at an accredited two- or four-year institution.

Dues::
Columbia Branch dues are $65.00 (includes Association dues of $47, State dues of $10, and Branch dues of $8).

Meetings:
The Columbia Branch usually meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.(September through May).
